There are theoretical bottlenecks at every point in the telecommunications network. As that happens, you will see speeds increase and total bandwidth increase. Technologies will continue to evolve that maximize the bandwidth over existing copper and cable infrasturctures and increase the routing and switching capabilities of the core of the network. You don't much worry about paying for interstate long distance calls anymore? Remember dial-up compuserve at $1/minute or something insane? Over the long haul, the evolution in technology has done nothing but bring more value to the consumer. Uses of the internet have evolved, hence the reason they have the amended the terms over time. When DSL was first offered, Hulu and Netflix streaming were not even part imagined. The government is talking about a charging scheme based on how many miles we drive. Isn't our water usage capped/tiered? How soon before CPS does the same? That is like buying groceries and paying to eat them. What did they think was going to happen? Time Warner sells its shows to Netflix (and other online services) and then they want to cap me because I am using the service they sold their content to to watch it? AT&T hogged the iphone and ipad from the time they existed until just this past month touting it's network capabilities. I dont buy for a second that these companies are doing this because of losing revenue from the other content they provide. Now that I have taken advantage of services available to me I "use too much" and have to be charged extra for it? Nowhere did it say "but if you use too much over time we are going to cap you". When I signed up with TW their offer was X dollars per month for X speed. I am not with AT&T I am with TW so I am thinking about down the road when TW tries capping again. It's not uncommon for Netflix to be streaming 8hrs a day while I work at home. ![]() I am probably in that 2% because I use Netflix and Hulu to death.
